Having been a GP for the last twenty plus years I feel saddened and demoralised by the way it has changed.
General Practice now places more emphasis on ticking boxes and following care pathways and protocols rather than concentrating on each patient's individual needs and formulating a course of treatment for that specific individual. The ability to treat patients with an holistic approach has been diminished.
The new GMS contract has certainly made me reluctant to continue as a GP and whilst I may have no alternative, so as to provide an income. I am looking for alternative ways of earning a living and looking forward to my retirement .
